Who we are
This policy covers the website of Heany Law, LLC ("the firm", "we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or about information we hold, email [email protected] or write to us at:
101 S. Main St
P.O. Box 51
Windsor, MO 65360
What we collect and why
The consultation form. When you submit the "Request a free consultation" form, we keep the name, email address, phone number, type of matter and message you typed into it, so that we can reply to you. From the request itself we also record the IP address and browser identifier ("user agent") your device sent. We do not ask visitors to create an account or log in.
Analytics. If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited, how visitors arrive and roughly where they are. The data is aggregated and does not tell us who you are. Until you accept, Google Analytics runs in its cookieless mode and sets no cookies on your device.
Server logs. Like every website, our server records each request it serves: the address it came from, the page requested, the time, and the browser used. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure, and to investigate problems and abuse.
How a form submission is handled
Your submission is saved in the website's database first, then emailed to the firm through the firm's Microsoft 365 email service. Saving it first means a temporary problem with email delivery never loses your inquiry.
No attorney-client relationship
Sending the form does not create an attorney-client relationship and is not a request for legal advice. Please do not include confidential or privileged details in it. Wait until we have agreed in writing to represent you.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This site uses:
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | This site | Remembers what you were doing between pages | Two hours after your last visit |
| XSRF token | This site | Protects the form against forged submissions | Two hours after your last visit |
cookie_consent |
This site | Remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies | One year |
| hCaptcha cookies | hCaptcha | Tells a person apart from automated spam on pages that carry the form | Set by hCaptcha |
_ga, _ga_* |
Google Analytics | Tells apart visitors and visits so page statistics can be counted | Up to two years |
The first three are needed for the site to work and are set without asking. The Google Analytics cookies are set only after you choose Accept on the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's cookies in your browser, after which the banner appears again.
Who else processes your data
- hCaptcha (Intuition Machines, Inc.) checks that the form was submitted by a person rather than a program, and may see your address and browser details when the form is used. See the hCaptcha privacy policy.
- Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Corporation) is the firm's email service, and delivers the messages you send through the form to our inbox.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) receives page-view statistics if you accept analytics cookies. See the Google privacy policy.
- Google Fonts (Google LLC) serves the typefaces used on this site.
- jsDelivr and cdnjs (Cloudflare, Inc.) and code.jquery.com (the jQuery Foundation) serve the page libraries this site is built on.
- Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) sits in front of this site to protect it against attacks and to speed it up. Every request passes through Cloudflare, which sees your address and the page requested.
We do not sell your information and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- Form submissions are deleted automatically 12 months after we receive them. If our notification email about a submission failed to send, we keep that submission until the firm has dealt with it and then delete it by hand, because the website's copy is then the only one we have.
- Server logs are kept for 90 days.
- Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics account, which is at most 14 months.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- tell you what information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete what we hold, where we are not obliged to keep it;
- stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email [email protected] or write to the address above. We will answer within one month.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always at this address. If a change is significant we will say so on the site.
